Crookedstone House isn’t a hotel that happens to be in the countryside: it’s a working smallholding that also takes guests. That means dogs and horses on the grounds, a proper garden rather than a landscaped car park, and a pace of life that guests notice the moment they arrive.
“If you like nature and animals”
More than one review mentions the animals on site as a genuine highlight, not an afterthought. One guest wrote about the “great smell of the countryside and the dogs,” and specifically recommended the stay “if you like nature and animals.” Another put it simply: “If you like dogs and horses they are an added bonus.” It’s not something we advertise heavily, but it’s clearly part of what makes a stay here memorable for a lot of people.
What’s actually on the property
This is a real, working property rather than a manicured show garden. Dogs and horses live on the grounds, and guests are welcome to say hello to the animals during their stay. If you have any questions or concerns before you arrive, just ask.
A different kind of countryside stay
Plenty of B&Bs describe themselves as a “rural escape,” but not many mean it in quite this literal a sense. There’s no artificial quiet here: it’s the genuine rhythm of a smallholding, which for a lot of our guests is exactly the point. It makes for a stay that feels a world away from an airport hotel, despite being only minutes from the terminal. See our grounds and local area page for more on the grounds guests are free to walk during their stay.
Who this suits
If you’re after a stay that feels like visiting a real home in the countryside, rather than a room that could be anywhere, this is very much for you. It particularly suits guests travelling with an interest in animals, or anyone who simply wants their morning to start with birdsong and a view over fields rather than a car park. Read more about what guests have said about their stays in our piece on why our guests keep coming back.
